Come celebrate the Year of the Rat as the Hawks recognize Lunar New Year during the home game against the Washington Wizards on Sunday, Jan. 26 at 6:00 p.m. ET.
Chinese New Year is a festival that celebrates the beginning of a new year on the traditional Chinese calendar. The festival is usually referred to as the Spring Festival in modern China, and is one of several Lunar New Years in Asia.
HALFTIME PERFORMANCE
At halftime, the Chinese American Cultural Performing Group will conduct a Chinese silk fan and ribbon dance routine called “Colorful Memories.”
SPECIAL GIVEAWAYS
Throughout the celebration, the Hawks will hand out limited giveaways to fans, including traditional red gift envelopes, plush rats to commemorate the 2020 Chinese zodiac, and commemorative Lunar New Year mini basketballs.
LION AND DRAGON DANCE
Taking place on the arena concourse, this Chinese tradition has been performed for more than 1,000 years, with the purpose of bringing good luck and prosperity while chasing away evil spirits.
